After two years of the pandemic, the popular nightlife festival has returned bigger and better than ever.

Madeleine Park, stylist, fashion hound and presenter of the popular podcast Style Stories Madeleine Park, is changing the game when it comes to merging Indigenous and diverse creatives. Park along with Nina Fizgerald, Zoltan Csaki and Maggie Zhou are collaborating together to bring to life a fashion parade followed by an all inclusive panel.

Read below as Madeleine shares her thoughts on this fabulous event she’s planned.

Tell us a bit about yourself!
I am a fashion stylist and host of podcast ‘Style Stories’. I love the art of vintage fashion and understanding how to wear it in modern ways.

How did you become interested in fashion?
From since I can remember my mum always had me involved in making decisions about what to wear. Although working in the fashion industry is my “second career” (I started off in Psychology and HR) it was always something I wanted to do - all my notebooks in high school were covered with dress designs! I also like to blame a favourite uncle who used to organise fashion magazine subscriptions every year for me for my birthday.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learnt in the fashion industry?
How fashion trends can tell a story about a time - fashion can be a wonderful lens to various sociological, psychological, political and economical movements happening at any given time

What prompted you to start a podcast?
I was looking for an outlet beyond taking a selfie to express my ideas on fashion. Style Stories combined my background in psychology and interviewing with my love for story telling, self expression and of course fashion. Oh and anyone who knows me knows I like a chat!

The most exciting thing about working in the fashion world is…
Seeing people express themselves through creativity and understanding the story that trends and clothing tells us about who we are and what we represent

Can you tell us a bit about your VIVID fashion parade + panel?
‘Fashion’s Flash: Back to the Future’ will showcase up-cycled vintage garments illuminated with contemporary Indigenous Australian art in a joyful fashion show. The parade will be followed by a panel session which will explore how these refashioned pieces and outfits reflect on the past to shine a light on issues and movements defining the future of the fashion industry.
